Special Release Packaging
Gemtree’s special releases comprise their Small Batch range, Ernest Allen honouring family and the icon wine, Obsidian. They are an opportunity for the winemakers to flex their imaginations, tell stories and continue to build the brand. These wines need to show their own distinct personalities, whilst remaining part of the family.
The Small Batch wines and handmade, free from convention, free from restraints. These wines are experimental and made from select parcels of organic and biodynamic fruit. The Small Batch wines are an expression of the joy and curiosity of winemaking. Adorned simply with the Gemtree monogram, these wines are packaged to suit.
Obsidian is Gemtree’s icon wine, showcasing everything a reserve wine should. The fruit is sourced from their oldest and scarcest blocks and matured in new French oak for 3 years. The resultant wine has great concentration and flavour yet it continues with the Gemtree trademark of fine acid and tannin lines. The Obsidian deserves the title of Gemtree's flagship wine—dark and powerful, yet restrained and poised.
A keen market gardener and viticulturist, Ernest Allan was also Melissa Brown's grandfather. The Ernest Allan celebrates and validates the relationship between the earth and vine. It is an intensely rich Shiraz, worthy of a memorable occasion.
